Newshare Corp. launches LISTSERV for free-lancers

First 100 Subscribers Obtain Free Syndicate Membership

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Feb. 6) -- Newshare Corp., the nation's first Internet news brokerage, has inaugurated a public mailing list for free-lance writers, artists and other news professionals.

The list, aimed at non-fiction writers as well as editors who purchase their work, is called Free subscription is moderated and requests should be sent to freelance-request(at)

"We have watched the discussion on alt.journalism and other newsgroups," said Bill Densmore, a cofounder and editor of The Newshare(SM) Syndicate. "It is clear there is a need for a list which responds to the business and professional needs of free-lance writers."

Densmore said the first 100 susbcribers to, besides being able to freely exchange tips and information among fellow free-lancers, will also be given a trial membership in the Newshare(SM) Syndicate.

The syndicate is a World Wide Web site, still "under construction," which will permit Contributing Members to showcase their text and graphic content for use by the public and by traditional media such as newspapers, magazines and broadcasters.

"The value of the Newshare(SM) Syndicate is the ability to provide 24-hour-a-day previewing of the content of individual free-lance writers," says Densmore. "Most free-lancers find their most onerous task is finding markets for their work. The Newshare(SM) Syndicate will help by trying to match markets with content."

List subscriptions will remain free. After the first 100 list subscribers however, syndicate membership will require a one-time fee, tentatively set at $25, for storage and listing of a predetermined amount of material. More complete information is available by sending E-mail to

Among topics suggested for the list are: writing effective query letters, tracking and maintaining query files, marketing strategies for stories, articles and books, self-publishing, self-syndication, time management, software, hardware, tax issues, reference sources, ethics, electronic publishing rights/issues/techniques and payment terms.
